Pub regulars and visitors will be delighted to learn that popular riverside pub, the Locks Inn at Geldeston, is now open for business.

Earlier this month we published dramatic pictures of the pub by the River Waveney near Beccles being completely cut off by flood water.

However, the floods have now receded and the ub, which dates from the 17th century, is once again open at weekends.

Landlord Colin Smith said that the recent floods, though not the worst he has experienced certainly affected trade and the empty pub was more than a little lonely at times.

However, this was all rectified on Saturday night when regulars flooded back to soak up the atmosphere. The fire was roaring, the candles lit and the kitchen and cellar were pumping out good beer,

This was followed on Sunday afternoon by one of the famous ‘Billy no Mates’ acoustic sessions, which featured mainly folk artists but also some poetry and country sounds.

Billy Smith, the MC, said: “We were all holding our breath hoping that Colin would be able to re-open in time for the session. It’s a real tonic and great chance for anyone and everyone to join in. It was a great relief to find the path dry!”

Colin Smith said he would like to thank friends and neighbours for all their support during the ‘rainy season’ and hopes to see old and new friends alike in the pub for a pint in the next few weeks.

The pub will once again be open every weekend in the winter, (full time from April 1) with the widely acclaimed Friday curry nights, often followed by the full range of musical genres throughout the other sessions, or just a quiet friendly banter next to the roaring fire. Dogs, children and musicians are especially welcome!
