A family is offering a £500 reward for the safe return of their dog who went missing during a walk in Attleborough on Tuesday.

Helen Batch was walking six-year-old golden cocker spaniel Barley at Gaymers Meadow when he disappeared.

She said one minute he was sniffing the ground near her feet and the next he had vanished.

She searched the area for hours but there was no sign of him.

Mrs Batch and husband David, who live in Attleborough, have now put up the cash reward to encourage people to keep looking for him as they are convinced he is out there somewhere.

“He is just a happy family dog who will run up to anyone but he wouldn’t just run off,” she said.

“There were loads of other people on Gaymers Meadow and we had walked around the field twice already so he wasn’t charging about.

“We had just gone down to the end of the field where there is a hedge and a few places you can get through. He was sniffing around really close to me and in just a few steps he had disappeared. I thought he had gone through the hedge so I called and called but he didn’t come back.”

Mrs Batch then walked down Leys Lane calling and whistling and knocking on doors but Barley was nowhere to be seen.

She then had to break the news to their four children that Barley was missing.

“They were devastated,” she said. “They are so worried that he is out in the cold.

“But he can’t have just vanished into thin air.

“If anyone has found him I would urge them to hand him in at a vets or rescue centre as he is microchipped and they can scan him. We just want him home.”

Mrs Batch has put out appeals on social media and registered Barley with DogLost, a service run by volunteers to reunite dogs with their owners. Police have also been making enquiries.

Barley went missing at 11am on Tuesday. He was wearing a grey collar and he is neutered.
