The mayor of Great Yarmouth John Burroughs and mayoress Jenny attended the eight annual litter pick yesterday and gave a rousing speech to send volunteers on their way.

Around 30 residents enjoyed the sunshine while helping with the village clean up, filling more than 25 Big Tidy Up sacks.

Julie McNair, Hopton Parish Council clerk, said: “It was good teamwork and great to see more children joining in.

“Certificates and stickers were awarded to all children by the parish council, who organised the litter pick. We’d like to thank the Mayor and Mayoress for attending, GYB Services for providing the equipment, the Big Tidy Up run by Keep Britain Tidy and Hopton residents who turned out for this very worthwhile community activity.”
