People in Norfolk are being reminded of the road route and timings that the Tour of Britain cycle race will take through the county on Sunday.

The annual professional cycling race will return to the county for the third year running this weekend with the opening stage of the event.

This year's event will include a stellar line up including see current world cycling road race champion Mark Cavendish and Tour de France winner and Olympic gold medallist Bradley Wiggins.

Riders follow a route from Ipswich and head through Woodbridge and Leiston before passing through Reydon and Lowestoft.

They will then head on towards Great Yarmouth, Filby, Potter Heigham, Hoveton, Coltishall, Reepham, Swanton Morley, Dereham, Mattishall, East Tuddenham, Colton and Easton before finishing at the Norfolk Showground at Costessey, which is hosting the Norfolk Food and Drink Festival.

Spectators are being asked to think about walking, cycling or taking public transport to watch the annual professional cycling race where possible.

If driving is the only option available, people are being asked to consider car sharing with friends and family - particularly if heading to the Tour of Britain finish event at the Norfolk Showground.

Parking is available from 9.30am, with free family fun day activities running from 11am to 4pm, with the race expected to finish between 2.45pm and 3.15pm.

The free event includes a food and drinks fair as part of the Norfolk Food and Drink Festival.

The Tour of Britain operates rolling road closures along the route.

On the day, roads and junctions will be closed only for the time needed for the first and last race cyclists and their support vehicles to pass, not for the full duration of the event itself. This will be enforced by police motorcyclists.
