Flurries of unseasonal snow and icy winds blew in from the east today to make Norfolk shiver.
In Norwich the snow started falling mid-morning and fell more heavily in the afternoon.
Coastal communities woke to a thin carpet of white, with many gardens punctuated by the unusual sight of flowers peeping through the snow.
Snow has also been falling across the south and west of the county and settling on fields, gardens and cars, although the roads remain clear.
Great Yarmouth has escaped the snow but is being battered by the bitterly cold winds.
Temperatures hovered around the freezing mark, but the winds meant it felt far colder.
And motorists had to reach for the scrapers and de-icer yet again to clear the snow and ice from their windscreens.
In Lowestoft there were light flurries of sleet in the morning and Suffolk police have urged motorists to take care on the roads.
The scheduled performance tonight of the Grimethorpe Colliery Band at Lowestoft’s Marina Theatre has had to be cancelled due to the severe weather conditions in the north of the country.
The conditions also meant that Lowestoft Town FC’s scheduled Ryman League match at Wingate & Finchley was postponed after a pitch inspection, while Lowestoft Reserves game at Clacton was also postponed.
Snow flakes have fallen intermittently throughout the day in King’s Lynn but nothing has formed on the ground.
In Diss it has snowed steadily since 10am with approximately 1cm of snowing laying on grass verges, trees, bushes and rooftops, though roads are largely clear.
Snow is expected to continue falling throughout today, but will die away by tomorrow.
However, the weather forecast is not promising much in the way of relief, with the easterly winds set to continue to rip in from the continent for the next few days, and temperatures likely to remain near freezing.
Naturists are to be banned from a nationally-renowned Norfolk beach following complaints about anti-social behaviour committed in the area.
