A north Suffolk mum is preparing to spend a week walking Spain’s ancient pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela to raise money for international aid agency CAFOD.

Through the generosity of many friends, mother-of-four Judith Tooth, from Redgrave, has already raised more than £1,200 and hopes to collect more donations before she starts her 100-mile walk on 15 September.

The 45-year-old, who attends the newly-opened Catholic Church of St Henry Morse in Diss, said she had been a supporter of the catholic aid agency for a long time and would be walking the pilgrim route with two other catholic women from Manchester.

Ms Tooth, who has four sons- Dom, 17, Louis, 15, Felix, 12 and Silas, eight, has already received a large number of donations from family and friends through her Just Giving charity donation page.

CAFOD works with partners across the world to bring hope, compassion and solidarity to poor communities, standing side by side with people of all faiths and none to end poverty and injustice.

She said: “As well as being a personal journey, this challenge is an opportunity to walk in spirit with the world’s poor.

“I’ll be following in the footsteps of pilgrims who have trodden the same path for 1,000 years.

“It’s been hard to find the time to practice as much as I would have liked, but I’ve really enjoyed the walks I have done – often early in the morning – and I’m sure walking in the company of other pilgrims, and knowing my friends and family will be thinking of me, will keep me going each day.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has sponsored me so far.”
