Sherngham's German twin town Otterndorf

Sheringham Twinning Association is preparing for its bi-annual visit to German twin town Otterndorf.

Several exchanges have taken place over the 27 years of the partnership and many long term friendships have been forged including with the high school, St Peter’s Church, Lobster Potties morris dancers, Shantymen choir and Rotary club.

The association is keen to hear from other groups interested in getting involved.

Otterndorf is a small town at the mouth of the River Medem in Lower Saxony and 65 miles north-west of Hamburg. It is a similar size to Sheringham and dates back to 1261.

The visit this year is planned by coach departing on May 23 for an overnight sea crossing followed by a five-night stay in the town, with a warm welcome from local hosts.

  • Town twinning should not be an issue in times of austerity.....if, indeed, at all.
