One of the UK’s top military display teams will be dropping in to make an appearance at this year’s Diss Carnival as the event’s line up continues to grow.

The RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team, based at RAF Brize Norton, will be the star attraction at the annual extravaganza, which is set to take place on June 15 with a procession through the town followed by a funday at Diss Town FC’s Brewers Green Lane ground.

The display team will this year be performing at events across the UK and Europe, including Belgium and Switzerland and they could perform a High Show, between 9,000ft and 12,000ft, a Mid Show, between 5,000ft and 9,000ft or a Low Show, between 2,500ft and 5,000ft.

Once they land, they will remove all their equipment and run to a team line-up where the team leader takes the salute and the display aircraft does a flypast with impeccable timing.

However, the Falcons team will not be the only RAF representatives putting on a display at the football ground as there is also set to be a flypast by a Spitfire fighter.

Carnival coordinator Doreen Collins said this year the procession, which is themed Diss through the ages, would be led off at 1pm by the Norwich Samba Group rather than the bagpipers of previous years and there will also be an appearance by a Bressingham majorette troop with a couple of baton twirlers.

Activities and displays lined up for the funday include a craft marquee and a performance by the Phoenix Rescue birds of prey, while the Zoo-tastic Mobile Petting Zoo will also be appearing with a range of animals including birds of prey and spiders and snakes that children can touch.

There will also be bungee jumping and wall climbing, as well as an appearance by entertainer Bazza Bizarre.

The funday is set to start at 2pm and the entry fee is £3.50.

Mrs Collins said: “I am confident it will be our biggest carnival yet.”
