The 86-year-old monarch was admitted to King Edward VII’s Hospital in central London yesterday as a precaution.

She cancelled her engagements this week including a two-day trip to Rome and a visit to HMS Lancaster in London, but is reportedly in “good spirits” despite her brief stay in hospital.

The Queen had fallen ill on Friday, March 1, but was not admitted to hospital until Sunday.

Gastroenteritis is considered extremely common and infects one in five people every year.
