Residents and members of the public will be able to get a behind the scenes glimpse at the work taking place on a King’s Lynn housing estate.
Hillington Square is being regenerated by housing regeneration specialist Lovell as part of a £30m project for Freebridge Community Housing.
Lovell regional director Tony Tann said: “Involving the community is a key focus for us as we work on this scheme so we’re delighted to be able to invite local people on to site through the Open Doors event.
“It’s a chance to learn more about the work that is set to transform the estate, as well as take a first-hand look at how a large-scale site operates.
“There will also be an opportunity to find out about the job and training opportunities being provided through the regeneration programme and the range of career opportunities available in the industry as a whole.”
The four-year project will see extensive improvements including kitchen and bathroom replacements for the estate’s 320 flats, as well as window and door renewals, insulation work and other improvements such as external cladding. Balconies and walkways will also be rebuilt as well as the construction of new staircases, installation of secure entrances and new lifts and remodelling of garages.
The major investment aims to transform the area which has suffered from a number of social problems over the years.
When the flats were first built in the 1960s they were considered to be top of the range and the regeneration project is aiming to make that the case once again.
Developers hope that by opening out the design of the flat blocks and introducing community projects Hillington Square will be able to change its image within the town.
Freebridge’s chief executive Tony Hall said: “We are very happy to be working with Lovell on Hillington Square and are pleased that the Open Doors event will allow the community to become further involved in this hugely exciting project.”
Lovell held an open day in June this year to help them identify local contractors who they could work with on the project.
The two-day Open Doors event takes place on Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28 at Hillington Square and will include site tours, hands-on activities and workshops, careers and training advice and the opportunity to talk to the Lovell team working on the extensive improvement programme.
The hour-long supervised site tours require booking which can be made by visiting www.opendoorsweekend.co.uk
