There was a proud moment for long-serving employee Daphne Necchi, when she was handed the scissors to officially open her revamped shop.
Mrs Necchi did the honours at Budgens of Aylsham reopened under its new management by the Holt-based C T Baker group.
The store in Norwich Road has undergone a four-week facelift, after it was taken on by the company which also runs Bakers and Larners, Budgens at Holt, and a string of builders’ merchants.
She began working at the shop when it first opened in October 1988, and said she was “honoured” to be chosen to do the ceremony watched by scores of guests.
“I started as a shelf filler, and am now in charge of newspapers and magazines. I enjoy coming to work here,” said Mrs Necchi, who has also worked in other Aylsham shops including a baby shop in red Lion Street.
She said the refurbished store was “lovely and clean and bright.”
Bakers’ managing director Michael Baker told the opening he hoped the store’s transformation would help trading in Aylsham town centre too, and would also use many local food producers.
Guests sampled produce from Cromer crabs to Reepham real ales at the opening event.
The Aylsham store - which is about half the size of its Holt sister store - combines everyday shopping with upmarket foods from Bakers and Larners’ food hall. It is open 8am to 8pm every day bar Sundays which will be 10am-4pm.
