Norwich High School is launching a new scholarship award to mark the start of its 140th anniversary celebrations.

It is looking to identify high-flying girls wishing to join the sixth form from September with the Minerva Award.

The award will be given to a girl who can show an exceptional ability in science, maths, languages or the creative arts and holds a value of up to 50% of the tuition fee. Additional bursary assistance could also be available for eligible candidates.

All girls who currently do not attend the school are welcome to apply for the Minerva Award and are invited to attend its official launch, which will take place at Norwich High on Wednesday, March 12, at 2.30pm.

Headmaster Jason Morrow, said: 'The Girls' Day School Trust (GDST) was set up with a view of giving all girls of ability access to an excellent education. Norwich High has a proud history as the first GDST school to open its doors outside of London and we have continued its tradition of developing the educational experience we offer to our students and to help as many girls as possible benefit from that.

'It's probably no surprise that one of our favourite gods is Minerva, Roman goddess of wisdom. In light of our 140th anniversary, a new fund has been established to provide a new scholarship in her name for girls of exceptional ability and potential.'
