Norfolk police yesterday confirmed a female motorcyclist from the Poringland area, south of Norwich, was the victim in a crash in mid-Norfolk at the weekend.

Officers are still seeking witnesses who have any information about the collision on the B1108 Watton Road at Barnham Broom, near Dereham. Police have not yet named the dead woman.

Reverend Robert Parsonage, of All Saints’ Anglican Church, in Poringland, said there was a weekly prayer sheet on Sundays remembering those who have died, with thoughts and prayers likely to be given to the road crash victim.

He said: “It’s always a shock when something like this happens.

“You don’t expect it to happen to someone close to you and the community always has a sense of shock.

“We always have a time of prayer in the church for people who are bereaved and lost their loved ones.

“This will be no different. As long as we have the information we will remember that person in the prayers and the family, of course, as they come to terms with it.”

The woman was riding a black Kawasaki ZX600 motorcycle, which was involved in a crashed with a silver Citroen Xsara at 3.10pm on Saturday.

She was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital where she later died.

The female driver of the car was not injured.

John Overton, South Norfolk district councillor for Poringland and the Framinghams, said: “It’s a tragedy, especially when it is in your area.”

Anyone who saw the crash or the manner of driving of either of the vehicles prior to the incident should contact the serious collision investigation team at Norfolk police on 101.
