Around 300 homes have been affected by a power cut in the Lakenham area of Norwich this morning.

The power went off at around 8am, with problems reported in the NR1 and NR2 areas.

UK Power Networks said: “An underground electricity cable has faulted on our high voltage network, causing an area-wide power cut.”

It is hoped power can be restored by around 10am.

  • I live in Stowbridge (PE34). At about 8pm on 23 December Anglian Water cut off the supply to a large part of this area and didn't restore it properly until the early hours of Christmas Day. During that time all we got were recorded phone messages as the time estimates for restoration shifted from 5am to 8am, then 2pm, 8pm, midnight and finally 3am. Anglian Water didn't offer any advise of obtaining alternative water supplies nor did they, as they are legally required to, provide either bottled water or bowsers in the street. When I phoned up at about 8pm on Christmas Eve to find why we hadn't received any assistance the person I spoke to in their call centre didn't have a clue what I was talking about. Come on EDP, you can run a story on a two-hour power cut but choose to ignore (and I did phone it in) a nearly 30-hour disruption in a whole community's water supply - what's going on here?
