A branch of Poundstretcher will be opening in the building that was until recently Office Outlet.

The new store in Fullers Hill, which was originally an outlet of stationers Staples, will open to customers at 8.30am on Thursday.

The mayor of Great Yarmouth, Kerry Robinson-Payne, will then officially open the store on Saturday at 8.30am.

The Huddersfield-based chain has recruited 20 members of staff from the area to become part of the team, with six of those being former employees at Staples.

Poundstretcher area manager, Robert Bailey, said he was delighted to be opening up once again in Great Yarmouth, to offer a wide range of everyday essentials, such as branded food, drink, and homeware, to customers.

He added: “Our brand new store has meant we have recruited 20 members of staff to the Poundstretcher team, and it is great we have kept on six familiar and friendly faces from Staples.

“We are all looking forward to the grand opening and hope the local community will enjoy our vast range of products, great prices, and fantastic service. We are expecting huge crowds, so come early to catch the bargains.”

In 2014 it was announced that the town centre Poundstretcher store in Regent Street would close its doors for the last time.

At the time the store employed six people, and town centre manager Jonathan Newman said its closure was a blow to the high street.

The building was vacant until it was taken over by Age Concern Great Yarmouth who turned it into the Acorn Centre for over 50s.

The larger Poundstretcher Extra store in the Gapton Hall Retail Park has also closed down since.

The former Staples store in Fullers Hill converted to an Office Outlet when the former stationary chain was bought for a nominal sum by a specialist restructuring company last year.

On Saturday there will be various activities going on in the new store from 10am until 4pm with as a special fun day is held offering activities that the whole family can enjoy.

There will be free games, balloon models, voucher giveaways, and the chance to win some a whole raft of products on sale in store.
