Cyclists in Norwich are set to benefit from better facilities in part of the city as work starts on a new crossing.

Construction of a cycle-only crossing in the Magpie Road area begins on Monday (1 October) and also includes installation of a new section of off-road cycle track, separate from the Edward Street junction with Magpie Road.

The existing two-stage toucan crossing for pedestrians and cyclists will remain in place, while Heath Road will be closed to motorised traffic at its junction with Magpie Road.

John Fisher, Norfolk County Council's chair of Norwich Highways Agency Committee, says: 'This scheme is designed to improve the area for pedestrians and cyclists.'

The scheme is due to take four weeks to complete, finishing on Friday 26 October.
