A plea has gone out to find a “generous benefactor” to provide land to house Cromer’s allotments.
Seven years after the 32 Holt Road pitches were opened, a long waiting list and the planned extension of the neighbouring cemetery mean it needs to be moved.
Cromer Town Council, which owns and administers the allotments, is hoping for a “sizeable piece” of land on the edge of the town to enable the relocation.
Town clerk Julie Chance said: “We have 32 allotments, but 40 people are on the waiting list. There has been a significant waiting list since day one, so there is clear demand.
“We’ve written to all the existing allotment-holders to say that we are looking to move them because we need the land for future burials.
“What we need is a generous benefactor to come forward with some land. We would like a bigger piece of land than we have at the moment, because of the waiting list, which is getting longer.”
Last month, the council agreed to put the cemetery lodge on the market, after years of renting it out to tenants.
