Up to 85 people attended a meeting to discuss proposals for a skate park in Trunch.

Trunch Parish Council hosted the event to gauge public opinion on ideas to improve the playing fields in the village.

Proposals include renovating the pavilion, building a new skate park and installing additional play equipment.

Parish clerk Julie Chance said the parish council had been asked to consider installing a skate park by young residents of the village. She said a number of young people and other supporters of the scheme had attended the meeting earlier this month.

Objectors have argued the skate park will be too expensive, cause noise nuisance to nearby residents and will become a magnet for anti-social behaviour.

Mrs Chance said the council had investigated the cost of improving the playing field facilities and found a concrete skate park built in to the ground would cost £60,000, a traditional style skate park would be £70,000 and to improve the pavilion would cost £165,000.

She said the total project, including extra play equipment, would cost up to £250,000.

It was agreed at the end of the meeting to form a steering group of supporters, objectors and young people to investigate what should be included in the scheme.
