Richard Shepherd became the new chairman at a full council meeting on Wednesday, May 24.

His predecessor John Lee, who bowed out at the meeting, said it had been “the best year” of his life.

The new vice-chairman of the council is Roy Reynolds, who takes over from Mr Shepherd.

Mr Shepherd said: “It’s quite humbling. If I can do half as well as John, I will be well satisfied. I will now be representing all of us in North Norfolk.”

He said that, in the light of the Manchester bombing, he had chosen two charities for the year to fundraise for, that protected children.

He added: “They will be East Anglia Children’s Hospices and Nelson’s Journey.”

Mr Lee said: “I cannot believe it’s been a year. It’s been a pleasure and an honour and the best year of my life.”
