Swaffham cemetery chapel could be restored and modernised using money from a newly-created Norfolk County Council fund.

The £3.5m Community Construction Fund was set up earlier this month to boost Norfolk’s construction industry by helping pay for new village halls, sports facilities and play areas.

The council said the money came from an underspend in its budget, and grants of between £100 and £100,000 would have to be spent within a year of being made.

Swaffham Town Council has sent an initial email expressing interest in bidding for money, which would allow electricity to be installed in the chapel.

Town councillors will be asked to approve an application at their next meeting in October, before the submission deadline of October 19.
