Stalham Town Council to discuss council tax rise to buy key site in the town

Stalham Town Council will discuss plans to increase the precept it charges council-tax payers to help buy a key area of land at the town’s prominent northern gateway on Monday.
Councillors voted in favour of purchasing the old station yard site at a meeting in September, which saw councillor Roy Woolsey step down from his post saying the scheme would be too costly. The site has been valued at £250,000 by current owners Norfolk County Council and the town has been investigating borrowing money from the Public Works Loans Board, repayable over five, 10, 15 or 20 years.
The cash would be recovered from local council-tax payers by increasing the annual parish precept by up to 100 per cent. The increase in bills could range from £25-£100 per year.
An extraordinary meeting to discuss the proposals will be held at Stalham Town Hall at 7pm.

Off course, whilst this is going Broadland Cllr. Cottingham is on a jolly in UAE. If the award is genuine, it will award excellence whether Cllr. Cottingham and helpers have flown in or not. Its a waste of public money so better spent on helping towns and parishes.
