A north Norfolk town council is launching a bid to find the heroes who make the community tick.

Sheringham Town Council has set up the Sheringham Community Awards to recognise the achievement and effort of people or groups.

A council press release said the awards would honour people “for their work in enriching the quality of life for residents or visitors in our town”.

It added: “A community award is our way of publicly honouring a group or individual who might otherwise never be recognised for the work they have done in making Sheringham a better place to live in or to visit.”

The scheme is open to people and groups of all ages, and the council is looking for nominations for the first awards.

The handouts will be made by town mayor Doug Smith at the annual town meeting held at the new community centre on Holway Road at 7.30pm on Tuesday April 9. The meeting is open to all members of the public.

Application forms can be obtained from the town hall on St Peter’s Road or from the town council’s website www.sheringhamtcnorfolkparishes.gov.uk. Nominations must be in by February 14.
