I want to complain about this content:

  • Policy: Making sure Council Tax payers get good value for money. Updated:28 January 2013. Minister:The Rt Hon Eric Pickles MP. The chat: We want Council Tax payers to be able to veto excessive rises, to help them reduce their living expenses. We also want to make sure that they get good value for money from their councils. Over the last 2 years the government has provided grants of around £2 billion to help freeze Council Tax. On 8 October 2012 the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced extra money for local councils in England to help them freeze Council Tax for a third year. Council Tax referendums: We have changed the law to give local residents the power to veto excessive Council Tax rises. Pickles said the cap, which requires a local poll to be held where councils increase their own tax charges by 2% or more, was designed to increase local accountability. So well done Martin for reporting the usual Breckland spin word-for-word. Didn't you know there's a capping system or did you not dare ask? I have no faith in this 'local accountability' PR sham and fully expect Pickles to give Breckland some form of special dispensation.
