These were just some of the responses to pictures of our current seven MEPs.

“Absolutely no idea.”

“I recognise that hair.”

“I feel like I saw him on something recently, but I have no idea who it is.”

“It’s familiar, I can’t think of the name.”

The results of the crude experiment showed that not a single person, randomly picked over the course of two hours, could name an Eastern region MEP.

I would suggest that the EU is not getting a particularly good return on its investment.

It spends millions of pounds on propaganda each year.

Indeed, many of the MEPs themselves employ their own publicity officers at the taxpayers’ expense.

We get no shortage of press releases from certain MEPs, some of them more interesting than others.

But it could also have something to do with the fact the East is a single constituency of nearly five million people covering six counties and 58 Westminster seats.

Even if they wanted to get around and knock on all the doors, they would struggle.

  • I wrote to Howitt once only to be met with a deafening silence.....decided then that they are not worth a light or a vote come to that.

  • The British people have never been asked if we want to be in the EU. Not the promised land as predicted.

  • I never voted and never wanted to be in Europe in the first place, and I still fail to see the point of donating 14 billion of taxpayers money to an off shore beaurocracy, when all you need is trade agreements! Another layer of politicians is just what we don't need,in an impoverished country where the infrastructure is so obviously crumbling away! I remember at the time Ted Heath giving away our fishing rights in order to negotiate his way in,and the long term consequences for the uk fishing industry have been disastrous!

  • No wonder they can't, cause every EU election, indeed at everu election, voters get their pre chewed candidates list, those always in the running, double and triple hatters slugging it out for their own benefits.
