Work will be start on improving a north Norfolk play area following a “generous” donation.

Holt town councillors were told at a the annual town meeting last night that Cumbria-based firm Playdale Playgrounds would start work on the Peacock play area this Thursday.

The area will be re-landscaped and is at the end of Peacock Lane. It currently has some children’s play equipment.

Town council clerk, Di Dann, said a donation of £250 had been made from a Holt resident.

On top of that the family of Holt resident Stephen Gooch, 57, who died on May 3 have said half the donations from a service of thanksgiving on May 21 would be given to the project.

A £10,000 grant was awarded to the £50,000 project from the North Norfolk Big Society Fund.

Mrs Dann said it was hoped the enhanced play area would be finished for the summer holiday

The new play equipment will include a zip wire, slide, bucket swing and roundabout.

It will mainly be for children aged six and over.
