However, for two nights in October it will also be home to a German-themed beer festival, after councillors said 'ja' to a licensing application.

Members of Norwich City Council's licensing sub-committee unanimously agreed to grant a premises licence to Hampshire-based company Mutiny in the Park Ltd to hold Oktoberfest 2018.

The company held its inaugural Oktoberfest Norwich last year in the Carrow Road car park, however, decided to select a different location this year.

Neil Roberts, operations manager for Mutiny in the Park Ltd told committee members the Carrow Road site provided them with 'back of house' limitations and that they required more space to operate the event.

A meeting held in March had been adjourned after the company failed to send a representative, however, the licence has now been granted.

After the meeting Mr Roberts said: 'I'm very pleased by the decision and we are now all looking forward to bringing an event everyone enjoyed last year back to Norwich in a new venue.'

Mr Roberts had applied for a multi-year licence to allow them to hold an event in Eaton Park on two nights in October every year for the foreseeable future, however the committee instead opted to grant a licence for the 2018 event alone.

Three representations had been lodged in objection to the application, however, two of these were withdrawn.

The remaining objection came from Richard Polley, who organises a parkrun event in the park and attended the meeting.

He had raised concerns around vehicles interfering with the weekly activity, however, Mr Roberts agreed to make sure none serving the event would operate during the parkrun times.

Now it has been given the go-ahead, the event will take place on the Friday, October 5 and Saturday, October 6.

The event will be split between three sessions - 6pm until 11pm on Friday, 12pm until 5pm on Saturday, and from 6pm until 11pm that same evening.

Live entertainment mooted for the event includes a German Oompah Band.
