Norwich South MP Simon Wright has been promoted to a new role as an aide to deputy prime minister Nick Clegg.
The Liberal Democrat MP has been named as Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to Mr Clegg - a role which will see Mr Wright attend cabinet meetings and support his leader by acting as a main point of contact for other parliamentarians.
Mr Wright said: “It’s a huge honour to be appointed by Nick Clegg as his PPS. I look forward to playing a greater role in supporting his work, and having a view of the workings of the cabinet and the heart of the coalition government.
“While I look forward to starting in this new position, my work for Norwich will always be my first priority.”
Mr Wright will continue in his role as the Liberal Democrat spokesman on education in the House of Commons.
Mr Wright, who won the Norwich South seat after defeating former Home Secretary Charles Clarke at the last general election, previously served as PPS to the schools minister David Laws MP, and also to the former children and families minister Sarah Teather MP.
