A set of Norwich garages are to be knocked down to make way for new homes, despite more than 40 objections to the proposal.

Members of Norwich City Council's planning committee have agreed that the garages, off Hanover Road, near Newmarket Road, should be demolished and four new homes built.

The new homes on the city council-owned site will be managed by Orwell Housing Association and is one of a number of sites across Norwich where garages are making way for homes.

A previous application for the site was agreed in 2017, but had to be reviewed because of a right of access issue.

But there were 43 objections to the proposal, with people living nearby concerned at the loss of parking spaces and the pressure that would heap on other roads.

However, officers said any loss of parking was outweighed by the 'urgent need' for affordable homes.
