He is the politician who has already turned his hand to dancing and chairing Norwich City Football Club after losing his seat in Parliament two years ago.

And now, Strictly Come Dancing contestant Ed Balls has raised a laugh once again by presenting one of Britain's best-loved comedy shows.

The former schools secretary and shadow chancellor - who delighted viewers with his performances on the BBC Saturday night dancing show last year - presented the topical news quiz Have I Got News For You, which was aired on Friday, May 26.

The show has been known for launching and reinvigorating the careers of politicians including Boris Johnson and William Hague - but also causing embarrassment to many others.

After opening with a gag about his Labour colleague Tom Watson, the Norwich-born former MP joined quick-witted panellists Ian Hislop and Paul Merton with a series of satirical jokes about the week's news.

Unsurprisingly there were a few verbal jibes at Conservative prime minister Theresa May.

However his own party didn't get off the hook, with Mr Balls making a reference to Jeremy Corbyn being 'weak' and how opposition frontbencher Emily Thornberry was contradicted by her own colleagues on Trident.

After showing a sequence where Mrs May appeared to avoid answering a direct question in a television interview, Mr Balls told viewers: 'It's really important to answer the question if you possibly can, and I don't think she did - and I think people will probably notice.'

A keen piano player, Mr Balls used a keyboard to give the guests a musical clue to some of the questions.

But his rendition of What's New Pussycat? seemed to confuse the panel more than enlighten them and they pleaded with him not to play any more clues.
