MP Norman Lamb has called on North Norfolk’s Conservatives to “sort out” their problems “as a matter of urgency”.

The comments came after a turbulent period which has seen four Tory councillors quit citing issues with leader Tom FitzPatrick.

Liberal Democrat Mr Lamb said: “There is obviously a problem – this has rumbled on for a long time now.

“Those who have resigned are decent people with genuine concerns. My concern is not with any individuals or personalities but with the potential impact this disruption is causing.

“You cannot run any organisation without clear leadership and people must have confidence in that leadership. The current situation must be sapping energy from the whole organisation.

“They have to sort it out. It really is a matter of urgency. The bottom line is that we have a responsibility to the tax payer and to the people who rely on the services. That must not be disrupted.”

Georgie Perry-Warnes was the first to quit in June followed by Nigel Pearce. Last week John Rest also quit the party and Angela Fitch-Tillett left earlier this week.
