Norfolk County Council has taken a major step forward in its bid to buy the former RAF Coltishall base.

Contracts have been exchanged between the council and site owners the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) with completion expected in the new year.

The authority is remaining tight-lipped on how much taxpayers’ money they are spending on the purchase. A spokesman said the sum would be revealed after the deal was completed, which it was hoped would take place on January 8.

Until then, security at the 600-acre former Battle of Britain station remains the responsibility of the MoJ.
