Norwich South MP Simon Wright is planning to use Prime Minister’s Question Time on Wednesday afternoon to ask David Cameron to signal that the work on the stretch of road at Elveden will begin as soon as possible.

Liberal Democrat Mr Wright said: “All of Norfolk cheered when the announcement came in October that the dualling of the A11 was finally going to be completed.

“During the election campaign, it was one of the biggest issues locally, but there was a real fear that the need to tackle the deficit would prevent the scheme from getting the go ahead.

“However, the government recognised the huge contribution that dualling this road would make in helping our local economy grow and bringing more jobs into Norfolk.

“I know that the Prime Minister has long recognised the need to dual the A11, and I hope that he will respond to my question by joining with our region’s MPs and local communities in pressing for the work to begin as soon as possible.”

It was confirmed in October’s comprehensive spending review that the government would press ahead with dualling the final nine-mile stretch of road, but has said only that work will start by 2015.
