Lowestoft’s northern spine road will have a roundabout junction with the A12 instead of traffic lights, if proposals put forward following a change in the law are approved.
Construction of the final section of the much-needed new relief road north of the town is due to start in May 2014, but the plans are now being amended to include a roundabout junction with the A12 at Corton by Corton Long Lane.
It follows a change to planning laws, made by the government last month, which relaxes the rules around nationally important highways projects.
A revised planning application will be submitted by the end of the year.
Councillor Graham Newman, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for roads and transport, said:
“This is a much-needed new section of road in Lowestoft costing a lot of money, so it’s important that we get the plans right.”
