Much of north Norfolk is idyllic: a place where people choose to live and work.
But piecemeal mobile phone coverage can make day-to-day life frustrating – and it is leaving the district’s businesses behind, according to one frustrated trader.
Danny Hickling, who owns Little Gems at Cromer, has become so fed up with the sporadic signal that he has set up a Facebook page to highlight the problem. And he is firmly behind the EDP’s Let’s Get Connected campaign.
He said: “Mobile phone coverage often disappears, and customers cannot make contact. Sometimes you cannot receive a voicemail message until a day late – so you lose a sale.
“At our warehouse we don’t have broadband, so I often take 45 minutes to close up, then drive to a layby to get a signal to send photographs to potential customers. It’s ludicrous. It’s hard to quantify how much it is costing businesses, but it hurts. In this age of technology, it is crucial to be able to act quickly.”
