Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is due in Norwich today - at an event for party members only.

It was planned that Mr Corbyn would be 'in conversation' with Norwich South MP Clive Lewis, as the party look to oust Tory Chloe Smith from her Norwich North seat.

Mr Lewis caused controversy yesterday when a video emerged online of him telling an audience member at a Momentum event last month to: 'get on your knees, b****.'

And there is now doubt over whether he will appear at the party event today.

The event today aims to raise money for Norwich Labour campaigning, particularly in Norwich North, where Ms Smith saw her majority cut from 4463 to 507 in June's snap election.

In a message to members, Mr Lewis said: 'I hope that you can join us next Saturday. With events like this to mobilise our members and help raise the funds we need to get our message across effectively we can turn Norwich North red and give them the Labour MP they deserve.

'For a variety of logistical reasons, this event is required to be for Norwich Labour members only. The exception to this is that under 18s attending with their parents are not required to be members.

'Names will be checked against the membership list prior to the day to make sure that this has been upheld.

It will be the Labour leader's first visit to the region since June's snap general election.

He will be accompanied by shadow chancellor John McDonnell.

Mr McDonnell spoke at a public meeting on the railways in the city last night.
