Independent Melvyn Elias, of Turner Close, Wymondham, was elected after receiving 194 votes in the Rustens Ward election. Mark Walker, of Ashleigh Gardens, Wymondham, who was also standing as an independent, received 184 votes.

The by-election followed the resignation of councillor Kevin Cooper, who resigned because of ill health.

Turnout for the election was 18pc, which happened on the same day as the Police and Crime Commissioner election on Thursday.

  • This should read Independent wins by ten votes from another Independent. None of the political parties wanted to make a showing and admit to getting beaten because that is what happens to political parties in Wymondham.
