A black and pink advertising sign painted onto a shop wall is definitely 'not Holt', according to town councillors.
Members voted to object to an application from the Fara Foundation who wanted to paint the words Fara Kids Charity Shop, with a directional arrow, on the gable end of 9 Fish Hill.
The sign, measuring 800mm by 240mm, would have black and pink words against a grey background.
'It's far too big and garish pink,' said Andy Turner. 'Is Holt ready for that? I don't think even London would be ready for that sort of signage.'
Councillors also decided to object to an application for illuminated advertising signs outside the town's Lloyd's Bank, at 1-5 High Street.
The council had received an email from the Holt Society objecting to the 'vastly incongruous' applications.
The society's aim is to support the preservation of the Georgian centre of Holt.
During the section of the meeting for public speaking, a society member urged the council to withstand applications for all unsuitable signs in the town.
He also mentioned the signs already in place, advertising the Premier shop, formerly Spar, which he said were 'awful.'
