The leader of Great Yarmouth Borough Council has been re-elected for another year.

Conservative Graham Plant, who first became council leader in May 2015, will lead the council for the next municipal year.

Carl Smith was elected as deputy council leader, replacing Penny Carpenter.

At the council meeting where he was elected Mr Plant thanked Mrs Carpenter for her service as deputy council leader.

She took a lead on the efforts to help market traders who were left without premises to trade from after the Regent Road fire in August find new homes in the town centre.

The Labour group nominated their leader Trevor Wainwright to be the council leader, but Tory and Ukip councillors voted against the proposal.

The political make up of the council is Conservative 14 seats, Ukip 12, Labour 11 and Tribune with two with the next elections in May 2018.
