A gardener with 40 year’s service with West Norfolk council was among those recognised at a special presentation at King’s Lynn Town Hall.
Forty-four staff, who have between them served 550 years with the council, received Long Service Awards at yesterday’s presentation. They included staff who had worked for the council for 10, 20, 30 and 40 years.
The awards went to gardener Mick Rayner for 40 years’ service, and to Carole Davis, benefits advice and review team officer, Lesley Raby, technical support officer and Dave Attew, benefits officer, for 30 years’ service.
Nick Daubney, leader of West Norfolk council, said: “As a council we aim to make west Norfolk a great place to live, work and visit. Achieving that simply would not be possible without the dedication and knowledge of experienced staff.
“The Long Service Awards are a way of saying thank you for staff’s continued commitment and an it’s an opportunity to celebrate the strength and quality of our staff.”
This year’s recipients also included the Chief Executive, Ray Harding and his PA Emma Elflett, who both joined the council 10 years ago.
Mr Harding said: “We have seen huge changes over the 10 years I’ve been in west Norfolk. Continuing financial austerity has meant we have to operate differently and staff have risen to the challenge, finding innovative ways of working that protect the services people rely on without placing further strain on local council taxpayers. The valuable experience of long-serving staff has certainly helped us to do this.”
Since taking up the post of chief executive, just nine months after he joined the council, Mr Harding has been supported by his PA. Having worked together from the beginning, the pair have developed a very efficient way of working, and Mr Harding admits that she has been invaluable in helping him to maximise his time.

As well as celebrating staff commitment at the Long Service Awards, we offer focused professional development opportunities to support staff progression and retention.”
