Gym-goers have been given a glimpse of what to expect from a major £2m expansion and improvement to a Norfolk town leisure centre.

South Norfolk Council has released a video virtual tour of what refurbished Long Stratton Leisure Centre, in Swan Lane, will look like when work is completed in 2019.

Work on the £2 million revamp is seeing the centre expanded and improved into a state of the art facility.

Improvements will be made to the sports hall and changing rooms, along with a new multi-use studio, spinning studio and new equipment.

A new 75 station gym will feature the latest equipment and there will be two fitness studios. New changing and showering facilities will also be available to members throughout the day.

A first-floor extension will be built with a new cafe and a soft play area for youngsters which will be open for celebration like birthday parties or as a meeting space for groups.

South Norfolk Council, which runs the centre, hopes the refurbishment will help meet extra demand due to the more than 1,800 new homes planned for the village.

Council cabinet member, Yvonne Bendle, said: 'We understand the importance of looking after the health and well-being of our residents and we also recognise the need to ensure that new infrastructure projects are built at the same time as planned housing growth.'

People who are members at the centre throughout the revamp period will receive one month free when the improvements are complete as a thank you for staying during the work.
