Better Broadband for Suffolk said the new funding meant it could work towards a target of 95pc of homes able to get a speedy internet connection, with all homes getting at least two megabits per second.

Norfolk has been allocated £5.59m while Suffolk has been given £4.82m and in the latest funding round.

George Nobbs, leader of Norfolk County Council, said: “The offer of extra funding from central government to help us make high speed broadband available to even more areas of Norfolk is very welcome. As £5.59m of local match funding will be needed to secure this investment we need to consider where this money could come from before making any absolute commitment.”

South West Norfolk MP Elizabeth Truss, said: “The extra £5.59m to Norfolk is great news and illustrates the government’s commitment to ensure infrastructure is top of the agenda. This builds on the £15m already allocated by the government for better broadband in Norfolk. Along with roads and rail, good broadband connectivity is not a luxury but a necessity; in rural areas like South West Norfolk, being ‘online’ is vital for both education, communication and business.”

  • Still getting less than 2mb in Queens Hill Costessey. It's ridiculous.
