Work to improve drainage and prevent flooding near a pedestrian crossing will see a road closure and diversion in the centre of Diss.

Mere Street will be closed at the junction to Park Road while work to install a drainage system is carried out between 7pm and 11pm over eight days starting on August 28.

The road closure will see traffic diverted down the normally one-way Chapel Street controlled by temporary traffic lights. While to safely control traffic on Park Road temporary three way lights will also be installed at the Morrison's roundabout.

A Norfolk County Council spokesman said: 'This work is being carried out in response to surface water flooding issues in the area and will see a drainage system installed to reduce the likelihood of this happening again in the future.'

Motorists have been warned there is the possibility the work, which will cost £30,000, may overrun due to any unforeseen circumstances.
