The new chair of the West Norfolk Conservative Party Group this morning starts his first day as leader of West Norfolk Council.
Mr Long takes over from Nick Daubney who has stepped down from the position after nine years at the helm.
He said: “When I was first elected as a councillor 13 years ago, I never dreamt that one day I would be leader.
“Nick has been an excellent leader, and it’s only because he decided to step down that I wanted to take on the role.”
He added: “I will relish the challenge. The devolution debate changes every single day and we must deal with west Norfolk’s infrastructure issues head on - improvements to the Ely North junction are paramount to the economy of this area.”
The announcement was made at West Norfolk Council’s annual council meeting held last night at King’s Lynn Town Hall.
Alistair Beales remains as deputy leader.
Meanwhile David Whitby, a borough councillor for Clenchwarton, became this year’s Mayor and Chairman of the Council during the formal civic service. Carol Bower, a Hunstanton borough councillor, will serve as his deputy.
