Picturesque holiday cottages are to be created on part of a village hall site - despite concerns over growing traffic where they will be built.

The application to convert outbuildings at Bracon Hall, in Bracon Ash, near Wymondham, was welcomed by residents 'because it lays the ground for rejuvenating an important building in the village that may otherwise fall prey to more overt commercial development'.

The four outbuildings, which were previously staff quarters, stables and garages, had also been 'allowed to fall into disrepair', according to a design and access statement produced by MJC Architectural Design.

But as part of the planning application to South Norfolk Council, which has now been approved, Bracon Ash resident Bob Shingleton said: 'The subject of the related increase in road traffic must be raised.

'Four holiday rentals will not generate a significant traffic increase.

'But School Road already suffers from excessive speed, the absence of a footpath and a material volume of traffic and associated parking problems.

'And there is already a holiday rental almost opposite Bracon Hall, plus a chambre d'hôte business and a private residence with two Airbnb rooms at the Hethel end of the road.'

The development was given the go-ahead on the basis it is designed sympathetically with the main Bracon Hall building, which has listed building status.
