There has been disruption to train services this morning after police found a body next to the railway track at Thetford.
Officers from Norfolk Police and British Transport Police searched along the track after being alerted at 8am to reports that the body of a man was on the railway.
A British Transport Police spokesman said: “British Transport Police officers were called to the line close to Thetford Railway Station, Norfolk, on Saturday, April 5, after reports that a body of a man had been located on the railway.
“Officers from the British Transport Police and Norfolk Police attended the incident which was reported to the British Transport Police at 8am and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
“Medics from the local ambulance service also attended but the man was pronounced deceased at the scene and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Sgt Simon Atherton, of Norfolk Constabulary’s control room, said officers had been given several locations to check and had requested the police helicopter to aid them in the search.
The body was found on the stretch of line near to Jane’s Wood, off the A1075, as the line comes into Thetford from the Norwich direction, near to where the A11 crosses over the track.
There were cancellations and disruption to Greater Anglia and East Midlands Trains services as the line was closed for several hours. However, it reopened shortly before 11am, but passengers are advised there may still be residual delays as services begin to return to normal.
