A scared young woman locked herself in her room and dialled 999 after hearing noises upstairs in her Worstead home yesterday.
But when police swiftly arrived and searched the house, they found that the intruder was a trapped bird.
A police spokesman said: “The ‘suspect’ turned out to be a blue tit frantically flying into the bedroom window so, unusually, the officer assisted in the suspect’s escape, much to the relief of the young lady.”
Nearly 3,000 people have supported a Facebook campaign demanding safety improvements on the A47 near Dereham set up after the latest fatal crash.
