Officers will be conducting high-visibility patrols throughout the festive period to identify and target offenders.

As part of the campaign launched yesterday (Monday) the Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) will work closely with shop staff in a bid to improve communication and gather information.

PC Keith Kenny said: “We’re sending a strong message to thieves that shoplifting will not be tolerated. Offenders can expect to be found and brought before the courts.

“We’ll be working with shop staff to take a pro-active approach too.

“Shops will be issuing banning notices where appropriate which we’re hoping will help in preventing offences before they occur.”
