Police have seized sound equipment, a sound rig and generator following an illegal rave in the Thetford area.

Officers believe between 400 and 450 people attended the unlicensed music event, and were first made aware of it at around 12.30am this morning.

They attended Thetford Forest near Croxton and looked to identify the organisers as well as monitoring the event for safety, given it was a rural location during the hours of darkness.

As daylight arrived, officers were able enter the site to conduct a full assessment of the area and seize sound equipment and speakers. Two vehicles were also seized.

Officers remained on the scene while the area began to clear at 11.30am.

This was completed by approximately 2pm.

Enquiries are continuing into the circumstances around the event.

Superintendent Stuart Gunn, who led the police response this morning, said: 'Unlicensed music events like this one are not only a disturbance to local people, but can also result in damage and financial penalties to landowners at the location where they are held. 'They are also very unsafe due to the remote location and closeness to rural roads.

'This action reinforces the message that Norfolk police take a zero tolerance attitude to this type of activity.'
