A man arrested in connection with a suspected acid attack on a woman in Lowestoft has been released on bail.

Police arrested the 25-year-old on Friday following an incident in which a corrosive substance was sprayed in the face of a woman in London Road South, Pakefield, at 8.20am on Thursday, August 14.

He was arrested for conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm, but has now been bailed until November 5.

Yesterday, another man, Leon Thompson, of Alma Road, Lowestoft, appeared at South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court in Ipswich charged with throwing a corrosive fluid with intent to disfigure and cause grievous bodily harm.

The 38-year-old did not enter a plea and has been remanded in custody and will appear at Ipswich Crown Court on August 26.

The young woman suffered “life changing” injuries during the assault.

A police spokesman said the victim had suffered serious injuries to her face, neck and chest and would remain in hospital for a number of days.
