A platform is set to be removed from Great Yarmouth station as part of resignalling plans.
The new signals and platform remodelling deal was agreed by Network Rail last month at a cost of £29m.
The programme involves the removal of seven signal boxes, as well as the conversion of gated level crossings into automatic crossings along the marshes near the Acle Straight.
The shorter bay platform, Platform 1, will be removed, while the lesser-used Platform 4 will remain.
A spokesman for Network Rail, Katie Mack, also confirmed a new signal will be installed near the A47 bridge that is to be widened as part of a road improvement plans.
The internal reconfiguration plans come as the station forecourt and the route to it from the town centre are set to be improved.
A £2m makeover is scheduled to be completed before next summer by contractors for Norfolk County Council and is funded by the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).
Current proposals include a landscaped 'garden walk' between Vauxhall bridge and North Quay and creating a wide, continuous cycle and edestrian path from the station to the Market Place via The Conge.
There are however no plans to update the inside of the station.
Great Yarmouth MP Brandon Lewis said welcomed the investment around the station, but said he would press the train operating company Greater Anglia, which run the station, to improve the inside.
He added: 'I am keen to see this backed up with improvements to the station building itself, and have long called for investment to be made. I will be raising this when I meet with representatives from Greater Anglia in the coming weeks, and will continue to make the case for further investment in our rail infrastructure to both improve transport for residents, and to encourage visitors to the area.'
A Greater Anglia spokesman said they were looking to work with local stakeholders to improve the station.
She added: 'As part of our current franchise we will invest more than £60 million in improving our stations. We will install a ticket machine and information screen at every station and Great Yarmouth station will be repainted and will undergo a deep clean.'
